About Mary Joyce Marsh-Beil
Mary was born in Syracuse, New York to George Harold Smart and Ruth Agnes Wilcox on July 24, 1952 and became an angel on May 18, 2017.
Mary grew up in North Syracuse and married Robert Marsh on July 26, 1969. They divorced seven years later. Mary continued her education at Syracuse University while working at an all women’s dorm and also part time at the Syracuse Engineering Department office. She later moved to New Mexico and then to Phoenix, Arizona. Mary spent the bulk of her career working at Maricopa Community Colleges where she was the Administrative Assistant to 5 college presidents. She met and later married John W. Beil on July 9, 1998. Mary and John both retired at the end of 2011 to pursue their dream of building a summer home in rural New York. Mary was an avid hiker but she especially loved the Grand Canyon; completing three rim-to-rim hikes. Mary was the quintessential optimist who always saw the bright side of life, the goodness in everyone and the peace that comes from a life well lived.
She is survived by her husband, John, her brothers, George Smart and Brad Smart, her sisters, Eva Tordsen and Adelia Weeks, her stepchildren, Paul Beil and Amanda Cooley, and her step grandchildren, Josh, Kaden, Jane and Sophie.
A Memorial Service will be held in New York on July 8, 2017.
